If you're wondering how to install underfloor heating on a concrete floor, you're not alone. Whether you're planning a new build or retrofitting an existing space, warm water underfloor heating (UFH) offers a highly efficient, low-profile solution for modern living. At Epic Insulation, we provide user-friendly systems designed for fast and effective installation over concrete substrates.
Step 1: Assess Your Floor
Before you fit underfloor heating on a concrete floor, ensure the surface is clean, level, and dry. Any cracks or unevenness should be addressed to guarantee optimal performance and prevent future system issues.
Step 2: Choose the Right System
For concrete floors, we recommend either our Profix® Panel Range, Protile® or Profoil® Panel Range. Two main considerations to help determine your system choice is the floor height build up and what your final floor finish will be. Epic Insulation systems are designed for low-profile, high-performance, and ideal for use with renewable heat sources like heat pumps. Profix® Panels offer secure pipe retention and quick installation, while the Profoil® Range combines various depths, pipe diameter, spacing and foil for excellent heat distribution.
Step 3: Lay Insulation
Proper insulation is crucial to prevent heat loss downwards into the concrete. Use the Profoil® Range of insulation boards to create a thermally efficient base. If your concrete slab already contains insulation, use the Profix® Panel Range or Protile® to keep your floor levels low.
Step 4: Fit the Panels
Install the Profix® Panel Range, Protile® or Profoil® Panel Range directly onto the concrete, following the design/manufacturer’s layout guide. The panels interlock or butt together, forming a stable base for pipework. Ensure alignment is straight for consistent pipe spacing.
Step 5: Lay the Pipework
Clip or push the underfloor heating pipe into the pre-formed grooves. Maintain consistent spacing (typically 150mm–200mm) and follow your manifold layout to ensure even heat distribution across the floor.
Step 6: Pressure Test & Cover
Once the pipework is laid, pressure test the system before covering. Depending on your system, cover with a suitable levelling compound or overlay such as Epic Insulations High density gypsum Board, HiDECK 18mm Overlay ready for your chosen floor covering.
Installing Underfloor Heating on concrete floors doesn’t have to be complex. Epic Insulation’s innovative panels make it fast, effective and energy efficient.
