Suspended Floor Water Underfloor Heating
Warm-water underfloor heating is an effective way of incorporating a heating system into constructions with suspended timber floors. Installing water underfloor heating on suspended timber floors enables the floor to be heated to a much lower temperature than when heating radiators. As a result, less energy is required, and when the heat rises, it is distributed more evenly.
Both the Profix® and the Profix® PLUS Panel can be used in suspended floor water underfloor heating systems.

Profix® Suspended Floor Systems
The Profix® Panel is compatible with suspended timber floors for a range of different applications. Before installing water underfloor heating on suspended timber floors, the floor should be assessed to ensure it is stable, well supported and, in the case of ground floors, ventilated underneath. In all systems, the sub-floor onto which the Profix® water panels are to be installed must be suitable for the specific final floor covering selected and be capable of supporting the required loads without deflection.
Deflection should be measured under load or assessed by simply jumping up and down on the floor. Floors which flex or move under load should be repaired, any damaged boards replaced, and then over-boarded with minimum 6mm plywood (glued and screwed). If the floor is sound and there is no flexing under load, check the floorboards are closely butted together with no gaps between them. If gaps are found, then these should be filled, and any further pre-treatment completed before installing the Profix® panels.

Take a look at some of the Profix® suspended floor water underfloor heating systems:
Profix® Ultra-Low-Profile Screed System for Suspended Floors
The Profix® Ultra-Low-Profile Screed System is compatible with most suspended timber sub-floors. In this system, the Profix® Panel is combined with a cement-based levelling compound that is both quick drying and self-levelling. This creates a unique ultra-low-profile warm-water underfloor heating system with a high heat output and a fast response time even at low water temperatures.

Profix® Grooved Screed Panel System for Suspended Floors
The Profix® Grooved Screed Panel System is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, block & beam etc). In this system, the Profix® Panel is used as an end return panel in combination with grooved dry screed replacement panels. This predominantly dry-fit system avoids the drying times associated with liquid screed systems. Profix® End-Return Panels are supplied with 3mm thick pre-bonded XPS insulation on their underside, increasing their thickness to that of the 18mm grooved dry screed replacement panels (grooved for either 10mm or 12mm diameter pipes) with which they are combined in this system.

Profix® Heat Diffuser System (Standard) for Suspended Floors
The Profix® Heat Diffuser System (Standard) is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, block & beam etc). In this system, the Profix® Panel is combined with Profix® Aluminium Heat Diffuser Plates to create a dry-fit, low-profile, fast response warm-water underfloor heating system suitable for the direct installation of engineered wood flooring (minimum 14mm) or T & G Flooring Grade Chipboard (or similar).

Profix® Heat Diffuser System (Premium) for Suspended Floors
The Profix® Heat Diffuser System (Premium) is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, block & beam etc). In this premium dry-fit system, highly thermally conductive T & G dry screed replacement panels are laid directly on top of the Profix® Panels and Profix® Aluminium Heat Diffuser Plates, followed by either tiles, vinyl, thin laminate, or a low tog carpet and underlay.
The high thermal conductivity of the T & G dry screed replacement panels, combined with the radiant heat properties of the Profix® Aluminium Heat Diffuser Plates, enables the system to achieve high heat outputs combined with fast response times.

Profix® PLUS Suspended Floor Systems
The Profix® PLUS Panel is compatible with solid floors in a range of different applications. The surface regularity (flatness) of the solid floor onto which the panels are to be installed should meet the flatness required for the chosen final floor covering e.g. for engineered wood flooring localized variations in level should not exceed +/- 3.0mm from the mean when measured over a 2m distance using a straight edge (BS8201). However, in addition to flatness, the smoothness of the floor surface is also important to ensure that the self-adhesive-backed panels make consistent contact, resulting in no flexing or movement underfoot.
Solid floors which do not meet the required standard should first be levelled using Profix® Levelling Compound (or an equivalent levelling compound).

Profix® PLUS Pipe in Flowing Screed System for Suspended Floors
The Profix® PLUS Pipe in Flowing Screed System is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, block & beam etc). In this system, the Profix® PLUS panel is combined with either a cement-based flowing screed or an anhydride (gypsum-based) flowing screed.. This creates a unique low-profile warm-water underfloor heating solution delivering high heat outputs, even at low water temperatures, combined with much faster system response times compared to conventional in-screed systems.
Thanks to the Profix® PLUS Panel’s unique design and high strength, total system depth starts at just 20mm, making it an ideal floor heating solution for both new-build and retrofit projects, especially where any build-up to the height of the floor must be kept to an absolute minimum.

Profix® PLUS Pipe In Void System for Suspended Floors
The Profix® PLUS Pipe in Void System is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, beam & block etc). In this system, the 14mm to 17mm diameter UFH pipework simply clips into the Profix® PLUS Panels in either a serpentine or counterflow (spiral) pattern, followed by either T & G flooring grade chipboard, or more thermally conductive T & G dry screed replacement panels, before installing the final floor covering .
This system is suitable for use in very well insulated properties, ideally those which meet Passivhaus standard, where heat losses are minimal and only relatively low heat outputs are required to fulfil the space heating requirements.

Profix® PLUS Pipe in Diffuser Plates System for Suspended Floors
The Profix® PLUS Pipe in Diffuser Plates System is compatible with most solid sub-floors (concrete, block & beam etc). This solid floor underfloor heating solution is a dry-fit system incorporating Profix® PLUS aluminium heat diffuser plates to enhance heat outputs. The specially designed Profix® PLUS aluminium heat diffuser plates fit neatly onto the Profix® PLUS panels and the pipe then simply clips into the plates. Following this, either T & G flooring grade chipboard, or more thermally conductive T & G dry screed replacement panel, is laid over the panels before installing the final floor covering.

Underfloor Heating By Property Type

Underfloor heating for new builds
Warm-water underfloor heating is a cost-effective, energy efficient space heating solution for new build properties.
With their self-adhesive backing and interlocking features, Profix® underfloor heating panels are very quick to installand guarantee the UFH pipework is always positioned at the correct spacing.
Incorporating a Profix® low-temperature warm-water underfloor heating system in a new build property, powered by a heat pump, will provide a ‘future-proofed’ space heating solution complying with the requirements of The Future Homes Standard and The Future Buildings Standard.

Underfloor heating for renovations
With its large surface area, a warm-water underfloor heating system can be an ideal space heating solution for retrofit projects.
At just 15mm in height, and with the added benefit of a self-adhesive backing, Profix® underfloor heating panels offer a very thin, fast-fix solution.
The self-adhesive backing on every 15mm Profix® Panel removes the risk of mechanical fixings compromising any hidden services within the existing sub-floor and, thanks to their very low profile, result in only a minimal increase to the current floor height.
